Current exhibit: The National Mountaineering Exhibition opened at Rheged as a permanent exhibition on 15th July 2001. It is the creation of the British Mountaineering Council and was compiled with the help of many of Britain’s best climbers -- true experts in the history and heritage of this spectacular and challenging sport.

The result is a fascinating range of artefacts, a journey through time and a story that has never been told before. Many of the things you will see (for example artefacts used by Mallory and Irvine on their Everest venture) have been hidden from view until now, so the Exhibition really does offer a unique opportunity for everyone to share in a great British heritage.

Theater Description:

The Giant Screen at Rheged is 60 feet wide and 48 feet high, making it as big as six double decker buses and one of the largest in Britain.

When the show starts you become instantly aware of the sound, which is a six-channel multi-speaker digital system delivering crystal clear sound and surround effects.

When the picture fills the screen you really feel part of the film with its amazing definition and superb stability, which is greatly due to the use of large format film. The whole effect is quite simply awesome from the film filling the giant screen to the crystal clarity of the 12 speaker dynamic digital sound system.
